There is nothing better than walking into a house and smelling cookies baking in the oven or the warm scent of cinnamon. Especially during the holidays, it is so nice to have this sort of greeting to welcome your guests. Below are my favorite ways to fragrance my home without baking.

Mulled Spices:

  • 4-6 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 apples (sliced)
  • 1 orange (sliced)
  • 3 star anises
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 tablespoons whole cloves

Fall Scent:

  • 4-6 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 orange rind
  • 3-5 bay leaves
  • 2 tablespoons whole cloves

Christmas:

  • 3-5 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 orange (sliced)
  • 1-2 sprigs rosemary
  • 1 tablespoon cloves
  • 1 cup fresh cranberries
  • 2 teaspoons nutmeg

Winter Wonderland:

  • ¼ grapefruit (cut into chunks)
  • 1 apple (sliced)
  • ½ lemon (cut into chunks)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger (sliced)
  • 1 cup fresh cranberries
  • A few small pine branches
  • 3 cinnamon sticks

Apple Pie:

  • 2 apples (sliced)
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons ginger
  • 1 tablespoon cloves

Instructions:

Fill a large pot with about four cups of water. Add the ingredients of your favorite scent and let simmer for as long as you desire. Be sure to replenish the water as needed. I normally let mine simmer on low for 4-6 hours, either on the in a large pot stove or in a crockpot.
