Especially after a holiday meal or a big dinner while catching up with family and friends, I am left feeling bloated, lethargic, and gross. While everybody should indulge a little, this sluggish state leaves me wondering if it was really worth it. Luckily I have 5 tips that will leave you feeling refreshed, bloat-free, and stress-free.

Lemons, Lemons, Lemons

1One of my favorite morning moments is when I get to sit down and have my cup of hot water and lemon. I like to squeeze half of a lemon (or a full lemon if it is small) into hot water. After this refreshing drink, I always feel invigorated & hydrated and cannot start my mornings without it. After a day of having an excessive amount of sugar, salt, or fat, my lemon water always leaves me feeling de-bloated by mid-morning. I like to have hot lemon water every morning before breakfast to jump-start my system or if I know I am about to have an extreme cheat meal, I like to have a cup immediately before eating. There are so many benefits of this detox tip that I would feel silly not partaking. Lemon aids in digestion, acts as a blood purifier, and cleanses the body.

Kimberly Snyder’s Glowing Green Smoothie®

2Kimberly Snyder is the go-to nutritionist for Drew Barrymore, Kerry Washington, Channing Tatum, and Reese Witherspoon, along with many others. She is also a New York Times best-selling author. Because I am a lover of everything Scandal/Kerry Washington, I started following Snyder and learned about her smoothie. While the Glowing Green Smoothie® may look green and gross, it is anything but and I promise that you cannot taste the spinach or romaine that help give the smoothie its vibrant color. Snyder recommends drinking this smoothie daily, and so do I. When your body is having to work extra to flush out all the toxins that come from holiday eating, it is crucial to take extra steps to help get everything bad out of your system. This smoothie is high in fiber which helps your body cleanse your system and keep your digestive tract clean.

Hot Yoga

3Practicing hot yoga burns major calories *cookies* and completely detoxes your body. Hot yoga is known to increase your metabolism, improve your lymphatic system, and build muscle tone. After a heavy day of eating, there is nothing more refreshing than stepping out of the yoga studio drenched in sweat. While moving from the couch may seem daunting after a big meal, you will feel more energized and like a whole new person after hot yoga.

Exfoliate

4Treat yourself. The holidays leave many people, myself included, a little stressed. What better way to combat stress than a little “me” time. Exfoliating your skin helps remove toxins and refreshes circulation, leaving your skin glowing and healthy. While some people prefer to buy exfoliators, I love using a DIY homemade scrub so I know exactly which ingredients I am putting on my body.

Take Your Vitamins

5To ensure that your body is absorbing all possible nutrients and is in peak-shape, add vitamins to your daily regimen. Be sure to talk to your PCP before adding any vitamins to your diet, especially if you are on medication. Your digestive system is extremely important to your health. If your digestive system is not working properly, you cannot get all of the nutrients and energy that you need. Adding a daily probiotic helps boost your immune system, improves digestion & skin health, plus various other benefits.

There is no reason to stay bloated when these tips will leave you feeling better than ever. You can incorporate these tips into your daily routine to see a more drastic result. Trust me…your tummy will thank you.
